Be a Doll…

Many of you are probably aware of the American Girl Dolls. Dolls that can be custom designed to look like any young girl. All aspects of the dolls are customizable, from eye color to clothes, from hair color and shape to freckles on the skin. The American Girl Project prides itself on making young girls feel beautiful and appreciated. A video, that went viral back in early June, epitomizes the joy that comes from finding a doll that is as unique as the girl is herself. In partnership with A Step Ahead Prosthetics the American Girl project takes customization of their dolls to a whole new level.

video of a young girl opening a birthday present, to find inside a doll with a prosthetic leg as her right leg to match the young girl receiving the doll. The young girl is overwhelmed with joy, with tears in her eyes and unable to control her level of happiness she exclaims “You’ve got to be kidding me? It’s got a leg like me! I love you” as she embraces the doll in a close hug.

A Step Ahead Prosthetics is one of the country’s leading Prosthetic limb manufacturers and believes so strongly in the cause that they provide the doll modification for FREE. They stated, “We feel that it is absolutely crucial to boost the self-confidence, self-esteem, and feelings of inclusion for little girls with limb loss, and that something as small as a doll that resembles them can have a profound effect on their mental and physical well-being. In that spirit, anyone with a child who has had or is facing an amputation is welcome to send us an American Girl doll which we will happily modify with a prosthetic limb (or limbs) to match the child.”
